Green China: efforts to transform deserts into green areas continue

China is one of the first countries to have introduced ecosystem restoration strategy into its official policy and continues to generously fund green restoration projects for over two decades. China made its biggest step towards developing a green economy earlier this year when it was announced that the country will move towards adopting green strategies in their economic development.

China has been orienting towards adopting energy-effective and innovative strategies versus energy-invasive, as a part of their latest stage in the development of the economy. With a creative name “New Normal”, this strategy is oriented towards an economy that is based on consumption as well as innovation. China has been moving towards greener economic growth, and companies like Elion Resources have been contributing with putting their efforts into preventing land degradation, as well as transforming desert back into populated areas.

As a Result of Efforts

Thanks to these efforts, what was formerly known as Kubuqi Desert, the area that is located in inner Mongolia, had now transformed into an ecological zone.  The company Elion Resources has joined alliances with the United Nations Convention in their efforts to fight the desertification of formerly green areas across the country. In their efforts to preserve and restore green areas in desertified areas, organizations have been working together while fighting climate change and land degradation.

Chairman of the company Elion Resources, Wang Wenbinao, explained that the project will mainly focus on creating green energy, as well as ecological restoration which will include land restoration. As the main focus of the company’s efforts, the development of green industry depends on gathering extensive financial means.

As the government’s new economic orientation is moving towards clean and green technologies, the economic growth is expected to come slower, yet remain stable. Motivating private businesses to move towards green technologies and using low-carbon energy should be the strategy for the development of the country with the largest number of people in the world. Throughout five years, which is a time span dedicated to this plan, the government expects progress in economic growth.

Wu Changhua, the leader of the international, non-profit organization called The Climate Group, had revealed that the aim of the organization is to reduce global emissions of greenhouse gas by expanding green technology markets. Wu congratulates the government’s effort and notes that the efforts of the government to invest extensively into technologies for creating renewable energies have given a great contribution to global efforts. Experts predict that China will become the part of the international community that will be able to afford the clear energy to be deployed.
